Procera provides Intelligent Policy Enforcement solutions for broadband (mobile, cable, DSL, FTTX, wireless), high-end enterprise (finance, government, and healthcare) and higher education network operators. The core network and business intelligence capabilities provided by IPE solutions enable network administrators to understand their usage trends using PacketLogic Intelligence Center and PacketLogic Report Studio, gain detailed subscriber awareness with the PacketLogic Subscriber Manager, and enforce business and charging policies with the PacketLogic Real-Time Enforcement systems. Our solutions enable proactive quality management, innovative service personalization, security threat mitigation, and detailed business analytics on network utilization and bandwidth consumption.

PacketLogic systems fit seamlessly into the 3GPP policy, billing and charging ecosystems when interacting with policy management systems (PCRF) and charging systems (OCS/OFCS). Although 3GPP is nominally designed for mobile networks, these standards are being adopted by broadband operators around the world due to simplicity of implementation and pervasive support in IPE solutions.

IPE solutions are required to deliver three main capabilities:

Awareness: Associate identities to IP addresses and application flows in real-time through integration with AAA and OSS systems. For the purposes of analytics and service enforcement, awareness includes the ability to associate attributes with a subscriber identity like location, devices, service plans, user groups, and other business critical information.

Analysis: Extract business and network intelligence from the traffic flowing through the network to enable easy resolution of critical business planning questions on bandwidth usage and needs, new services planning, congestion management, peering expansion, content delivery networks, and application popularity. This analysis is used to drive CAPEX, OPEX, and new services across the network organizations.

Control: Enforce network policies to meet business goals (revenue, profitability, and service stickiness) utilizing the capabilities of the IPE systems. Intelligent charging, service tiers, usage quotas, traffic filtering, congestion management, traffic management, traffic steering, and peering control are all requirements for IPE-based control.

The PacketLogic solutions are composed of three building blocks: PRE (PacketLogic Real-Time Enforcer), PIC (PacketLogic Intelligence Center) and PSM (PacketLogic Subscriber Manager) – all of which are mature and proven technologies that have operated in strenuous network environments. Our solutions help:

  • Traffic Management, Fair Usage and Congestion Management to delay CAPEX
  • Time, Application, or Location-based Services
  • Topology-aware Peering Bandwidth Control
  • Accurate, Fine-grained visibility on network behavior in real-time
  • Identify improper user behavior and limit the impact of network attacks
  • Implement new business and pricing models
  • Enable Quad Play Services through non-disruptive shaping and prioritization technology

Our customers testify of immediate to short return on investment (ROI). DPI addresses your bottom-line results across the board: Control production cost, properly understand requirements, package attractive services that minimizes churn and increases customer loyalty, or simply implement security measures and insurances against deviant user behavior that may ruin your business case and the experience for others.

PacketLogic is applicable across all network and access technologies. It enlightens cable MSOs of the impact on their core business from OTT video services, it helps 3G operators identify and manage backhaul congestion, it applies fair-share on shared-media WIMAX networks, it implements tiered services on high-speed LTE networks, and it helps xDSL and FTTH operators better understand their customers. High-end enterprises and higher education institutions can better manage users and traffic on their networks to ensure effective use of capital and the security and priority needed to deliver high quality connectivity to their employees.
