Procera Networks - Empowering Intelligence

Fixed Broadband Service Providers

Procera enables broadband service providers to manage network congestion effectively with market-proven intelligent policy enforcement solutions.

Broadband Network Congestion Management

Traffic volume in broadband networks is highly variable based on the day, time of day, and even the season. At peak times, network congestion can negatively affect quality of experience (QoE) for broadband subscribers—not just for high-bandwidth video streams but even for applications as simple as web browsing. To optimize capacity—and to enhance subscriber satisfaction—network operators need to assure quality delivery of broadband service even in times of network congestion.

How can broadband operators manage congestion in their networks more effectively? They need solutions that enable them to:

  • Manage network traffic based on traffic volume and subscriber service plans to deliver high QoE
  • Adapt to continuously changing traffic conditions, ensuring fair usage for all subscribers
  • Provide fine-grained location awareness regardless of access network—Wi-Fi, fixed wireless, DSL, Cable, or FTTx

The Procera Solution

Procera enables broadband operators to implement broadband network congestion management with real-time Intelligent Policy Enforcement (IPE) solutions that provide three key use cases:

  • Awareness of traffic conditions across the broadband network. Our IPE solution provides subscriber-level visibility of QoE with location and service plan awareness for specific applications, in real time at multiple levels of the network infrastructure.
  • Traffic Management to prioritize managed services, real-time, and mission-critical (i.e. VOIP) traffic at peak congestion periods and times. Our IPE solution provides intelligent traffic management with policy-based enforcement of traffic rules for each traffic type, in accordance with QoS and service plan levels for each class of subscriber.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing network conditions and diverse service provider needs. Dynamic policies change based on the bandwidth usage and the user experience. Traffic can be managed in a variety of ways, including limiting bits, packets, or connections per second, concurrent connections, prioritization, or combinations of these criteria. This also allows operators to mitigate security threats that can impact network performance.
